Requirements

• Preferably a PhD, but a minimum requirement of a master’s degree in environmental science or in a
field of research pertinent to coastal management, with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
• Sound knowledge of the relevant policies, legislation and scientific literature relating to coastal
management, with proven research experience in the field, supported by relevant, peer-reviewed
publications and reports.
• Excellent and demonstrable project, financial, and staff management skills.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly report writing, training, presenting to diverse
stakeholders, the capacity to chair high level stakeholder meetings, and the ability to distil science into
accessible formats and engage the public through popular media.
• Additional competencies required include GIS, remote sensing, spatial data analysis, and management
of public participation in coastal management processes.
• Experience with website development and maintenance would be an advantage, as well as a broader
appreciation of marine ecology and marine resources.

Requirements

Education;
Minimum of an advanced degree in environmental sciences, marine and coastal management, natural resources management, sustainable development or any other discipline that is relevant to nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources or related fields combined with experience in similar organization/s or programmatic setting;
Computer literacy in relation to office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint), use of internet and knowledge management tools;

Work Experience;
We’re looking for an outstanding, hands-on, highly motivated, autonomous, innovative, solution oriented, results driven and resourceful individual with at least 7 to 10 years of proven experience in:
natural resource management, coastal and marine conservation, protected and conserved areas, environmental economics, or regenerative blue economy;
programme coordination and management, project development and fundraising, budgeting, project planning, and day-to-day delivery of activities;
result-based portfolio and project cycle management, and monitoring and evaluation methodologies;
adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• An appropriate tertiary qualification in ecology and/or nature conservation (NQF level 7)
• and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• A thorough understanding of ecological theory, ecological processes and components of
• biodiversity.
• Extensive experience conducting a range of fauna and flora fieldwork preferably in the
• Western Cape as well as the associated data processing and analysis.
• Must be able to turn data into information and document this in reports etc. to inform
• conservation management.
• Ability to motivate and mentor staff to ensure maximum productivity and optimal
• development skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interface with a wide range of people
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and independently.
• Physically and mentally fit and willing and able to undertake strenuous fieldwork under
• varying climatic and terrain conditions.
• Prepared to travel extensively and be away from home for periods of time.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, be competent driving long distances and 4×4 vehicles.
• Proficiency in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape and high competency
• in English writing.
• High competency in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
• An excellent working knowledge of GIS.
• No criminal record.

Minimum Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities that are
required for the job:
• A Minimum BSc (Hons)) in marine biology / marine science or similar.
• A minimum of 3 years / 4000 hours of experience analysing of biological images.
• Experience identifying marine invertebrate taxa particularly in the Western and Southern Capes.
• Excellent data management skills and attention to detail.
• Experience using BIIGLE, CPCe, and/or Squidle+.
• Proven ability to work productively full-time for three months analysing images.
